Woohoo! It's not like I'm excited or anything. And now it's actually closer for us (and conveniently located just off I-5):

Great Western War is back!

The event will be located at the west end of Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area.

Buena Vista Park is located southwest of the city of Bakersfield, East of the city of Taft off of Hwy 119

http://www.co.kern.ca.us/parks/bv.htm Note: supposedly the War will be at the west end of the lake and not at the main camping area

Dates:

October 2rd (for pre reg and merchant set up)

October 3rd (for general admission)

thru the 8th 2007

Watch the CP, your local newsletter and the GWW web site http://www.caid-gww.org for further event details.

More information to come!

Will there be trees? Nothing grows in Bakersfield.

Google maps shows lots of trees and two lakes - the one the war is at is 86 acres, the one that connects to it is "Lake Webb...an elongated shape of 873 acres for boating, jet skiing and fishing, as well as an additional 125 acres for jet skiing ". The park is also irrigated so there is green grass. The area looks to be surrounded by agricultural fields and from what I can tell there are no cows (no flies!) and no women's prison (sorry about that last one, Vlad). :-D

I used to play golf with my Grandfather at the Buena Vista golf course, which is located in the same area. He lived in Taft. Unless things have changed it is a very arid site with little to no trees. Things have probably changed alot in the past 25 years since I was there.

I know the area you are talking about did a few projects with one of the companies I used to work for. There is some greenery. Can't wait to get more details.
